“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.
So be truly glad.There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.”

The Widow’s Offering
“Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins. Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.”

| HEROES OF THE FAITH When we think about the story of the Widow’s Offering and how she gave everything, we are reminded of the sacrifices that this couple has made. They have very little and they gave up most of the space in their home to help start this new church. Sacrificially giving of themselves and their comforts so that others may know HIM. For us, it is not always the well-known pastors or great speaking evangelists, but the many men and women that we have met this year who have given it all for the sake of the gospel. Thank you God for all the many blessings you have shown us as we see their courage, trust, and faith that they have in only YOU. Living with so little, they remind us, as Paul has done in Philippians 4:11, how to be content with whatever the circumstances. What an amazing blessing to see other fellow Christians with such faith and love for others… “And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life.” |
